News that the Unites States Traffic and Safety Administration might investigate a recent Model S fire has caused shares of Tesla to fall 10 percent. Over the last few months, Tesla had been through a period of large growth making this drop a surprise to many. Recently however, shares have been trending up and down, especially over the last month with shares moving from about $180 a share to $170 then back to $180 and now down to $160. The recent ten percent drop is a significant shot to Tesla, but the company should be able to bounce back if their plan to introduce even more affordable cars takes off with consumers.

In a surprising announcement, Ashton Kutcher was announed as a new product engineer for technology company Lenovo. Kutcher has qualifications to perfrom this job, as he is co-founder of A-Grade Investments, "which has provided venture capital and collaboration for multiple tech companies including Airbnb, Fab, Foursquare, Spotify, Path and Uber." It will be interesting how the addition of Kutcher impacts Lenovo. Instagram now with ads
Referenced from : http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57610443-93/the-preview-is-over-instagram-ads-are-here/
On Friday November 1st, Instagram began to unroll its update to include advertising in users' feeds. The company hopes that users will enjoy the advertisements, which will start out with a sponsored Michael Kors image. Viewers will then be able to provide feedback on the image or click to hide it. Although parent company Facebook has not said when, advertisements by companies such as Adidas, Levi's, and Macy's will begin to appear in users' feeds at some point in the future. It is important that these ads are not intrusive enough to drive away users, as Facebook needs to be able to monetize Instagram if it hopes to make up the costs of its $1 billion acquisition of the company

Apple Reveals iPad Air
On October 22nd Apple revealed its new iPad model dubbed the "iPad Air." The new tablet weighs in at about a pound and supposedly runs eight times faster than the first generation iPad. An important improvement is the use of dual-antenna wireless and MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) technology, which should make using the internet a much smoother and faster experience. Despite the usual hardware improvements, the new model lacked a game-changing new feature to put it head and shoulders above other competitors such as the Galaxy, Kindle, and Nexus tablets, which mostly already had all of these improvements. However, even with specs that are inferior to those of its competitors, the iPad Air will most likely sell well just like every model before it thanks to its loyal customer base and ease of use with iOS.
Apple also announced a new iPad mini with Retina display. Neither the iPad mini nor the iPad Air have the new fingerprint sensor that the iPhone 5s is equipped with.

Facebook's growth now centered on mobile advertising

Facebook's stock has been taking off recently, going above its IPO price. Now, in order to keep up the pace and satisfy investors, the company must continue its growth. Many see mobile advertising revenue to be a key part of Facebook's revenue for the foreseeable future. The company will be helped out by advertising on Instagram by many big companies, including Levi's, Lexus, and Adidas. RBC Capital Markets Analyst Mark Mahaney wrote that advertising on Instagram has the ability to generate $1.7 billion in revenue in 2015. More impressive is that, according to Mahaney, that this figure would be only 13% of Facebook's revenue. If Mahaney is right, then Facebook will continue to be highly invested in for a while.

YouTube To Launch Subscription Service For Music Videos
Taken from: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/10/youtube-subscription-music-service/
It appears that YouTube is planning to reveal a music video subscription service with a free option along with a $10 premium option. The plan is to allow users to be able to listen to ad-free music and cache music for offline listening. This plan is sure to be seen by a lot of people as a money-grabbing move by the website, which has offered free viewing of music videos since the start. As of right now, all of the details of the service are not completely known but the ability to cache music should allow people to take music on the go without purchasing it or having to use unnecessary data.

Trouble for iPhone 5c?
Taken from: http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/10/18/apple-reportedly-boosts-iphone-5s-production-by-75-decreases-iphone-5c-by-35
Sales for the iPhone 5s look strong, but the troubling news is that Apple has reportedly cut production for the iPhone 5c by 35%. It could be the perception that the iPhone 5c is just a plastic iPhone 5 while the iPhone 5s is seen as a new, improved version of its predecessor. Another reason could be that if somebody is going to lock themselves into a two-year contract with an iPhone, or buy an off-contract phone for a much higher price, then the savings from buying a 5c instead of a 5s is insignificant in the long run. Apple's decisions in the future regarding the 5c model mill be interesting, as it could indicate whether Apple will continue to pair its new models with an inferior version.

Google Never Out of the Game
Referenced from: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/shinal/2013/10/18/google-results-internet-search-record-stock-price/3004297/
With all the news about Google's stock rising above $1000, people don't seem to notice falling advertising prices, which troublesome to many companies that rely on ad revenue, including Google. Despite falling prices, Google still controls a large amount of the market share, making it less vulnerable than its competitors. Google's dominance in the market is impressive. Now with the increase in the number of mobile advertisements (which is why prices are falling), Google still does well because of the sheer volume of ads on its services. Although Google has nothing to worry about for now, competitors may find themselves struggling to keep up in the future.
Will Apple come out with a new game-changing iPad model? (Early Indication says probably not)
Information taken from: http://mashable.com/2013/10/20/apple-ipad-what-to-expect/
Apple will be having an event, which is supposedly concentrating on the release of a new iPad models, on October 22nd. Rumors mention the possibility of an iPad mini with Retina Display. However, all models will most likely continue the trend of being essentially the same as the previous year's model, just with improved processing speeds, thinner models, and better displays. Some sites are mentioning the possibility of fingerprint scanners on the iPad 5 models (however that is just speculation as of now). Basically the models will follow the same old trend, with the addition of a gimmick or two like the fingerprint scanner. Overall, Apple is not introducing anything that will draw much attention, if history and current rumors are correct. However, history also indicates that the new iPad models will sell well, despite much innovation between the previous and new models.
